Key Results

Maldives, with the second smallest population in the region, contributes 0.02% to both nominal and real gross domestic product. The overall price level in Maldives is 71% of that in Hong Kong, China and 110% of the region's average price level, the fourth most expensive in the region.

Program Implementation

The Maldives Bureau of Statistics, then under the Ministry of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure, led the 2021 International Comparison Program activities. The regional technical and data validation workshops organized by the Asian Development Bank provided a valuable platform for discussing product lists, addressing price collection issues, and sharing ideas to improve representativeness of items across the participating economies.
